Community Service & Social Action
We provide community service to a number of organizations. Policy statements are also within this section.
UU Faith Action NJ
UU FaithAction NJ coordinates grassroots social justice advocacy with our member congregations and individual UUs and allies across the state of New Jersey. We work to establish a just and compassionate public policy that is consistent with Unitarian Universalist principles and purposes:
Manna House
Manna House: Our volunteers prepare and serve lunch for approximately 50 needy people once a month. Manna House is located at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. Lunch is served every Monday through Friday by volunteers from churches and organizations throughout the county. The food is provided by Manna House. We prepare and serve lunch one Friday a month. One of our members, Phil Schaming, maintains the Manna House website.
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC)
Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC): We participate in the annual “Guest at Your Table” fundraiser to help support the work of this international UU agency. UUSC sponsors and funds community-based projects to assist the needy in many third world countries, as well as in the United States.
Immigration Justice Statement as of 3-14-24 UU Fellowship Sussex County
Many parts of the world, and even at home, lack simple freedoms and the blessings of security, safety, and being with loved ones.
Threats of violence, oppression, extreme poverty, and imminent death force many individuals and families to make the difficult decision to leave their countries of origin to seek refuge in the United States. With its long history of welcoming those in need, New Jersey leads the nation in percentage of people of immigrant heritage. As Unitarian-Universalists, we seek to educate ourselves and others on immigration issues and advocate for legislation that accounts for the dignity of immigrants. We envision immigrant families accessing the help they need without fear and needless family separations. Unitarian-Universalists in New Jersey work through its affiliate, UU FaithAction NJ, to organize support for migrants with coalition partners for the dignity of migrant families in their journey to safety and freedom.

The Board of Trustees of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Newton, NJ, has released the following statement: “The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Sussex County, NJ, condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the brutal loss of life and property it has caused. Our hearts are with the victims and their families.” We join with other religious organizations that have spoken out publicly against this tyranny.
